Colin Günther, the developer working on the wireless support for Haiku has put out this call for testers:

In time with Haiku’s first alpha release I’m looking for people willing to put some time into testing the WLAN-Stack. So, if you are interested read on…
First of all: Only +atheros based WLAN+ cards are supported at the moment. So most netbooks are covered by that. A comprehensive list of supported devices is maintained by the FreeBSD project.
What to expect of the WLAN-Stack:
auto connect to an unsecured (open) WLAN
wlan device will appear as an ethernet card
full support of Haiku’s network configuration utilities (Network preflet, ifconfig)
no WLAN specific configuration utility (neither GUI, nor CLI)
no listing of available WLANs
For more information visit the “haiku-wifi wiki”.

Haiku has now released R1 Alpha1, which is their first release. There’s still much work to be done on the way to Haiku R1, among which is better hardware support. There’s still work being done on ATA and the HDA audio driver, along with continuing work on OSS. Also there is a project to get wireless networking support, which is making progress. So a lot is going on with Haiku. If you haven’t tried it, or haven’t tried it recently, get a copy and give it a test out. If you find any issues be sure to read the Welcome info and provide feedback.

According to Christopher Blizzard, AMD is making the commitment to do two major things:
* To develop a fully functional 2D and 3D driver that supports all of their newer radeon chipsets for Linux. This will be done in full collaboration with the open source community and will have the direct participation of hackers from companies like Red Hat and Novell.
* To release documentation that anyone can use to build and support drivers for their chips.

Should be more information coming in the next week, hopefully this will lead to Haiku getting 3D support on the ATI driver.
